Thing #23

I can't believe I am finished. I am grateful to have gained exposure to new technologies at a less frenetic time for my department. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about many of the numerous free programs that are available via the internet. I subscribed to Learning 2.1 and discovered that there are actually 52 "Things" and counting. Learning 2.1 link - http://explorediscoverplay.blogspot.com/
Working in a University Library, it is so important for all employees, especially in my department to keep up with cutting edge technology. Thank you to Maryland Libraries for implementing the Learning 2.0 program and to my department manager for pulling us out of the technological "Dark Ages". I now have "blog fever". I have an overwhelming need to gain more knowledge and figure out new gadgets and programs. Completing the aforementioned tasks was a multimedia nerd's delight.

Wow, I can't believe that I am almost finished. Looked at Project Gutenburg and ogled the list of top 100 downloaded books also made some inquiries on their catalogue. A title I was interested in was The Practice and Science of Drawing by Harold Speed. Amazing to think that an entire book can be downloaded for free to your computer, phone or ipod and accessed at your leisure.

I know what podcasts are, but I have never searched them on the internet. Podcasts are yet another interesting way to disperse information. There are many arenas in which podcasts could be useful; disseminating news, instructional purposes, and sheer entertainment. I glanced and listened to a variety of podcasts. I visited the OPAL site, Online Programming for all Libraries and listened to a podcast from the Library of Congress on "Invisible Ancestors". Located a hilarious site, Stereo Radiation and subscribed to it on my Delicious account. The two men who lead the podcast poke fun at various news stories.

Thing #19

I had a lot of fun exploring the Web 2.0 awards list. I set up accounts with Pandora and Mog.
Pandora has some sort of interesting way of finding music that is similar to your chosen favorites. "Their Music Genome Project"if you will. Mog is an interesting site where you can choose your favourite music and then post comments and be able to view others comments about a particular band or song. A unique social networking site relating to music.

Thing #18

I created a document about Nigel and his instinctual hunting habits on Zoho. Zoho and Google docs are great tools that I think could be incredibly useful to my department.

Thing #16

Wiki's, quick, quick! Excellent way to find information but with the realization that some info. may be incorrect due to collaborative editing capability. Do not use Wikipedia as a resource for research papers kids!

Thing #15

I looked at several Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 websites. The ability to collaborate is huge, through all of the various tools available on the web. I feel that I have gained quite a bit of knowledge already and realize the infinite possibilities.
